Miquel Costas was born in Vigo in 1971. He graduated in Chemistry at the University of Girona in 1994, where ha also pursued his PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Antoni Llobet (1999). The research work done during the PhD included two international research stays at Texas A&M (Prof. Derek Barton’s group, 1996) and in Basel (Prof. Andreas Zuberbüehler, 1998). After defending the PhD dissertation, he was awarded with a Fundació La Caixa Fellowship to start his postdoctoral career and he moved to the University of Minnesota (Prof. Lawrence Que’s group, 1999-2002). He returned to Girona in September 2002 with a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship and became professor in April 2003. In 2005, he made a scientific stay at Caneggie Mellon University (Prof. Eckard Munck). Since 2006, he is one of the group leaders of QBIS-CAT Research Group in the University of Girona.
